Overcoming Divorce

10 scriptures to read when you’re healing from a divorce.

Divorce is a word that can trigger emotions. It’s the thing that couples try to avoid when their marriage is going through brokenness. Many people have suffered, and many families have been divided because of it. Although divorce is not a sin, there are sinful actions that leads to an ending of a marriage. Even though God never created marriage to end in divorce, under certain circumstances, God allows it. So, for many couples, divorce is the final solution.

If you are divorced, you know how painful it is to carry the burden and how difficult it is to deal with the aftermath. It’s a traumatic experience that will change your life. Divorce is a loss, and it feels like you’re grieving a death. You realize you go through the different stages of grief including denial, anger/shock, bargaining, depression, and then finally acceptance.

Healing from a divorce doesn’t happen overnight. The healing process requires prayer, time, patience, repentance, faith, forgiveness, self-reflection, development, and more. We need Jesus to come in and fix all the broken pieces and heal all the wounds. In addition to healing, you become the topic of discussion at people’s dinner tables or during their brunch events. One of the hardest challenges Christians will face when they get a divorce is unsolicited opinions from others who either never been divorced or never been married. People will gossip about you, condemn you, abandon you, mistreat you, blame you, and shame you for getting a divorce. Their opinions are like the enemy’s lies. It is best to ignore them and focus on overcoming the life-changing experience. Divorce is a devastating and humiliating situation. But don’t allow anyone to make you feel worse about your situation. God will love you. He will not condemn you or shame you. He will guide you, deliver you, and comfort you before, during, and after the process. Many people go through this alone, so this is not the time to turn away from God. If you are going through a divorce, continue walking with God.
