The Collins Barber & Beauty Shop Celebrates Grand Opening at a New Location

Plus 55 Years of being in business.

Charleston and Mary Collins (Owners) of Collins Barber and Beauty Shop

On Monday, February 6, 2023, Owners Charleston and Mary Collins of The Collins Barber and Beauty Shop celebrated their grand opening at a new location, and 55 years of being in business with family and friends. They were also awarded a CenterState CEO certification presented by the CEO Ambassadors and UMEA (Upstate Minority Economic Alliance).

The Collins Barber and Beauty Shop started 55 years ago by Carlton and Juanita Collins, the parents of Charleston Collins. The Shop was formally located on 309 South Crouse Ave., and served as a personal care service. The previous building was a two-story in which the 1st level operated as a barber shop and the 2nd level operated as a beauty shop.

Mr. Carlton always knew he wanted to be a Barber. He once stated that his father told him that when “started cutting hair, to keep cutting until he can’t do it anymore.” Not only did the Collins use the shop to provide personal care services, they also used the shop as an opportunity to fellowship and minister Biblical truth and knowledge to the community.

The Collins Family are Believers in Jesus Christ, and they were never ashamed nor afraid to share the gospel with those who walked through the doors. Their business was and still is unique in Syracuse because of their Biblical beliefs and values. They enforced rules such as “no cursing” and “no sagging”, and throughout the years, they provided an opportunity for many barbers and hairstylists to work there as well. The Collins Barber and Beauty Shop has influenced, impacted, and inspired many people in the community, and will continue to do so in the City of Syracuse.

The shop is now located on Erie Boulevard Ave.
